Dancity Festival is therefore proud to present, on May 30, 2014, in the gorgeous Piazza del Duomo in Spoleto, Flying Lotus live. The artist, whom has stretched out the boundaries of hip-hop, dilating them adrift towards the abstract, cosmic and psychedelic, but also dipped in "physical", entrancing funk, loved by Radiohead and Erykah Badu, now an absolute cult character, is finally coming to Italy.
Enthralling and charismatic, but at the same time elusive and unpredictable, his live performances tend to be few and far apart. Seeing him in Italy alone is a unique event; even more so in this special "Brainfeeder Showcase", which also involves Captain Murphy (a mysterious MC with undefined features...if not the alias through which Ellison loves to perform on the microphone) and especially Thundercat, a.k.a. Stephen Bruner, a genius bass player from California able to play through any genre - he played for Suicidal Tendencies and Erykah Badu - and to create two beautiful albums (the most recent, Apocalypse, from 2013) filled with cosmic 70s jazz-rock nuances taken for a highly imaginative ride into the hyper-future.
A creative unit that is redefining the confines of contemporary music: this is not an excessive definition for Brainfeeder, the American label that has been, for the past few years, an essential voice of the current most advanced and imaginative music scene.
The credit goes first and foremost to its leader and founder, Flying Lotus - loved by! his colleagues, under contract for the acclaimed Warp Records label almost since his very start, Mark Ellison (his real name) has four albums under his belt (1983, 2006; Los Angeles, 2008; Cosmogramma, 2010; Until the Quiet Comes, 2012), completely representing an exciting crescendo in terms of feedback from critics and listeners.
